As my holidays were ending I decided to go for a two days/one night walk near Vassiviere Lake in the French central mountain range where altitude is reaching nearly 800 m osl. This was a good occasion to try on the trail some new gear I bought : the Granite Gear Crown VC 60, my Salewa Firetrail GTX shoes, my Panasonic FT20, a Ticket to the Moon hammock, a DIY tarp and some pieces of wear.
The weather was pretty hot with 30-35°C under the sun and the night fresh at 10 °C.
My trip led me from the western shore of the lake heading to the east passing by the south coast for a first 18 km walk. but starting my walk at 12 h 00 I was short on time to reach the other lake - La Vau Gelade Lake - where I intended to stay for the night.
As a lack of luck the brand new map I bought for this trip is not up to date and the trails have been modified since the map was printed. I got "lost" for a while and had to take an unexpected way under a hot shinny sun getting short on water as well as on time...I took the bad decision to hurry without taking care of the hot spots on my feet due to may be low quality socks I was wearing.
I finally reached my destination at 19 H 00 after a 30 km walk and decided to stay at the camp site for the night so I could use the drinkable water offered at this place.
After a pretty cold night in my hammock (see the report about this case) I took the way back to Vassiviere lake starting at 9 am the 20 km stretch lead me back to my car by east to west road.
